December Beauty Roundup
What's new this month in the industry
Let’s round off the year with a recap of what was popular this month. I can remember in particular this year was a pretty good year for new launches & amazing products (from skincare - makeup).
Let’s talk about what’s new from December! Let’s dive in!
(Disclaimer that this post is not promoting any products nor is paid to do so, simply just spreading awareness & reviews on what’s new! It’s fun to research!)
1. Sweet Tooth Lemon Pie
Of course, we will start off with the talk of the town: Sabrina Carpenter’s New Perfume. Now of course, as with any perfume, there are pretty much 50% positive and 50% not so much. It fits into a citrus gourmand fragrance family, with notes of bergamot, candied lemon zest, limoncello, meringue, graham cracker, and vanilla. Many reviews say that it can best be described as lemon meringue, with one saying “it smells more like lime than lemon”, and others saying it seems like a summer fragrance.
Either way, it’s definitely worth a trip to the store to see if it is your taste. It’s not too expensive, with the largest bottle for sale at only 55$. Not to mention, her advertisement video and marketing was cute. Gotta love Sabrina!
2. The Longevity Memory Cream - Tatcha
This moisturizer is described to be the “perfect balance between their two prior lines”. A medium consistency, heavy enough to give a polished glow, but light enough so as not to clog pores. Personally, I love Tatcha. Their pricing is a little out of my range, but still cheaper than real luxurious skincare products. The scents are usually strong but beautifully fresh. This is being described as some buyers’ favorite moisturizer on the market currently.
3. Soft Glam Satin Concealer - Elf
A really notable launch is Elf’s new concealer. This is their first new concealer release in 6 years! Not to seem like an influencer or anything, but I love Elf concealer. I have used their hydrating camo concealer for as long as I can remember (it is a staple in my everyday makeup routine, and the one concealer I swear by). Because of this, I am nervous to stray away from it, but I really want to try out this new release. Their products have never let me down, so I’m excited to see if this new concealer works even better than the one I use. Usually, their concealers offer thick coverage, so I’m curious to know how this measures up to their others. So far, I have heard this one is more lightweight but still matte. Definitely worth a try!
4. Dewscreen Hydrating Primer - Supergoop
Supergoop is awesome! And I like how this particular screen is geared as an under-makeup primer/moisturizer! Who doesn’t love a dewy glow? From what I’m hearing about this product, it matches up pretty well with popular Korean skincare products. I’ve heard mixed things, some saying it’s really lightweight, others saying it’s really heavy if you use too much. Either way, this is one of the top sunscreen brands on the market, and definitely worth a look.
5. Ibiza Hair and Body Mist - Ouai
Ouai is one of the most popular hair-care lines on the market. I’ll be honest. I haven’t really tried much of their stuff besides the oil and the Melrose Place fragrance (my hair is really textured and I have perfected my standard products so perfectly that I hardly stray away). This release is one that is exciting, however. Their fragrances are amazing and incredibly long lasting. I used to work at Ulta, and I could tell whenever someone sprayed one of their hair perfumes in the air — it was that noticeable and luxurious smelling!
On top of this, this combination of notes is one of my favorites! I will probably end up doing a blind buy and most likely will be pleasantly surprised. Many reviews allude to this being somewhat of a summer scent, reminding them of a day at the beach. Some also mention there are stronger notes of coconut and vanilla, but still gourmand (and lasting all day).
6. Major Moisture Smoothing and Hydrating Tinted Lip Balm - Patrick Ta
Another brand I have not tried is this one, but I’ve heard of the popularity of this balm and did my own research. The tint to this balm is a semi-sheer lighter tint, that enhances your natural color. Other reviews say it has that perfect slip (similar to laneige glossy balms) that just glides on incredibly smoothly. I usually go for more of a defined tinted gloss, but others who like a lighter tint may love this one!
7. Rosa Charmosa Dewy Cream - Sol de Janeiro
One thing I am really excited about is the re-normalization of rose scents! I’m tired of hearing that it’s an old lady scent! It’s quite literally my favorite scent of all time. I think what Sol de Janeiro has done here is added a completely new flair and revamped the idea of a rose scent. This dewy cream is supposed to give some serious glow, and the reviews all pretty much agree on this. Perfect for summer.
8. Cheirosa 91 Perfume Mist - Sol de Janeiro
Along with the release of the rose scented lotion, Sol had also released a new mist accompanying this flavor. It contain notes of passionfruit, rose, amber, and honey caramel. To me, these notes sound slightly gourmand, and reviews say that it is slightly spicy and not too overpoweringly floral. I’m running to the store for this, because it is insanely difficult to find rose scents on the market these days.
9. Ultra Repair Hydrating Pillow Pads - First Aid Beauty
First Aid Beauty has some of the best toner pads in the market, and this new launch seems to be no exception. These pads are specifically formulated for hydration and touch ups throughout the day, strategically launched at the time of year when skin is at its driest. Some reviews say that they’re drenched in a type of milky toner, leaving the face smooth after application and not stripped. Some people say that their application didn’t last too long and that moisturizer still had to be used throughout the day, but it is up to personal taste!
10. Water Bank Aqua Facial Serum - Laneige
Laneige has gained insane popularity this year within their lip products, but their skincare is really noteworthy as well. Recently released is this serum, being referred to as a do-it all serum. It exfoliates, smooths, and hydrates all in one without being irritating. So far, I’ve seen almost nothing but positive reviews on this one. Not super glowy, but a nice and even hydration.
And that’s a wrap for December! We will touch base again on the newness of January once it comes. If you have tried any of these new products, let me know what you think!!
