Issue #3 - Digital Magazine Spread
Welcome to the 3rd official issue of WHIMSY Magazine. I am simply stunned and grateful for the incredible amount of traction I’ve gotten on these mini mags across all platforms. Some exciting news: as of today I’ve been offered my first ever PR collab for one of my FAVORITE beauty brands. I am so incredibly excited that the hard work is paying off and that people are actually enjoying these spreads.
With all that being said, I am officially stepping into full gear for WHIMSY Magazine. Expect regular posting across all media platforms and a website launch within the next coming weeks. Also thinking of starting a snail mail subscription club down the line for physical copies of magazine spreads.
Now let’s get into this issue.
Here is the full and complete spread. I think they’re starting to look more cohesive and better designed every time. What do you all think?
I’m such a foodie so the food and drinks page is always first and foremost to discuss. This time, I’ve been on a pizza/flatbread kick, and what better way to seasonalize (is that a word? it is now!) your pizza than by adding fresh produce and honey?
I tried an incredible prosciutto pizza from Trader Joe’s recently and came up with the brilliant idea myself to drizzle some honey on top. I’m definitely a savory and sweet mixture gal, and I tend to do this similar thing with all my meals. The result? Immaculate. Incredible. Summery.
If you’re looking for a summer beverage, why not a fruit tea. I’m Trader Joe’s obsessed, so here I’ll be recommending them again. Their seasonal teas are the bomb and the perfect starter for your own sun tea or iced tea. If you’d prefer something caffeinated, as I often do, then you can add your own fresh fruit or make your own syrup.
This page is likely the most whimsical I’ve ever done, and for good reason. It’s SUMMERRRRR which means that the summer witches can unite. I can feel myself defrosting and coming out of my winter slump. The weather is making me want to romanticize every second of it and truly experience summer in its fullest.
With that being said, I was searching for some cute ways to ring in the season. What I found were things like making a simmer pot with summer scents and written down words, picking seasonal herbs, make sun tea or water, decorate with summer colors, let items charge with summer energy, etc. These ideas are not my own but rather pulled from Pinterest, so if you’re interested, I’d conduct a search on there.
Similarly, I’ve seen some particularly crafty people making their own jewelry holders out of large shells they’ve painted. They look INCREDIBLE! I will be partaking.
Mail is chic again and I love that. When I first entered the Substack space, I saw a few brilliantly creative people conducting their own mail clubs, which I thought was so cool. What I didn’t expect was that it would turn into a booming creative profession across all platforms so quickly. It particularly seems like a great area for artists to dominate.
I think this proves the need for community and physical artsy possessions once more. We need to get back into the habit of sending mail to our friends and family again. Personally, whenever my grandmother sends me mail, I spend a good several hours of my day poring over it all.
Some things I love this week follow along our summer theme. I’m loving dainty shoes with any outfit. I believe that a simple casual outfit such as a teeshirt and jeans can be drastically elevated with a cute pair of flats or heels. I’m also jealous of anyone who has built-in shelves, or rather anyone who OWNS and can modify their house as they please (in order to add the built-in shelves).
Lastly, hellooooo stone fruit season and recipes galore! I’m loving greek yogurt fruit bowls, fruit iced tea (duh), pies, salads, sandwiches, etc. The possibilities are endless.
I’m still living in the years 2029-2021 apparently because I still love the Maui Babe gradual bronzing lotion. It works SO WELL. I can go from insanely pale to completely brown after spending just 20 minutes at high UV. The stuff is insane and it lasts all summer.
It’s becoming more of a popular thing, more so than spray tans. The downside of spray tans is that they’re well, spray on and don’t last. A natural tan is the only thing that will last all summer and what better way to achieve it than with natural browning lotions.
Also, being hot and educated is in. I am all for celebrities pushing younger (and all) generations to read and educate themselves. If you didn’t know, Dua Lipa has a book club and the main website is called Service95. I’ve spent a lot of time poring over it, and it’s actually pretty incredible. There are plenty of book recs, interviews with authors, and interesting newsletters. Seriously recommend checking it out if you haven’t already.
That’s a wrap for Issue #3. I thought for ringing in the summer solstice that it could be cute to include whimsical ideas for how to best ring in this season. If there is anything you want to see in the upcoming weeks of WHIMSY, shoot me a DM. I’m also looking to start featuring small beauty and lifestyle brands and stories within the spreads and magazines, so if you have anyone in mind, please recommend!
